Victory for Chelsea is crucial this weekend & Morata will be key

Chelsea’s woes hit breaking point last week with a shock 3-2 defeat to relegation favourites Burnley at Stamford Bridge, which left the Blues with a major problem as they also lost Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas to red cards.

Antonio Conte has been very public with his frustrations at a lack of continued activity in the transfer market, following a wealth of departures that have left the squad lacking significant depth- especially following the controversial sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.

A lack of midfield options this weekend, due to Fabregas’ suspension and Tiemoue Bakayoko’s continued injury issues, means that Brazilian David Luiz is likely to play alongside N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park.

That’s a concern for Chelsea, ahead of what could be a defining moment of the season up against a Tottenham Hotspur side that finished runners-up to the Blues last season, and another defeat would significantly raise the pressure upon the Blues.

Chelsea certainly do have the ability to overcome Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Wembley but they’ll need to rally together and forget about the issues that are being widely discussed on social media and in the press.

Alvaro Morata is likely to lead the line after his impressive performance off the bench in the defeat to Burnley, where he continued his fantastic record in league debuts and now boasts a debut goal on his first appearance in English, Italian and Spanish football.

The Spanish striker’s role in the side is even more important due to the continued departure of Eden Hazard, who’s yet to shake off his injury problems, and he’ll need to take on added responsibility in the side with the Belgian ace absent.

Morata has huge boots to fill if he is to fill the void left by fan favourite Diego Costa, who is still yet to officially leave but it seems like a move is imminent, but the early signs for Morata and Chelsea fans are good.

A starring performance from the striker at Wembley would go a long way to getting Chelsea back-on-track and would ease the pressure on the Blues significantly, especially as Conte’s side have a difficult run of fixtures ahead against the likes of Everton, Leicester, Arsenal, Stoke and Manchester City.
