Veteran full-back would be an incredible addition to Chelsea’s defence

Chelsea’s phenomenal season has given Antonio Conte the chance to create a legacy at Stamford Bridge but he’s under pressure this summer to improve his squad, as the depth of the Blues’ ranks weren’t really tested this season.

The Blues are set for a significant challenge next season to defend their Premier League crown and stand competitive in their return to the Champions League, where they’ll look to go toe-to-toe with some of Europe’s biggest sides.

Chelsea’s concerns are the fact that their ranks are lacking significant depth in key areas of their squad, one of which is the wide areas of their defence as the Blues don’t have too many options behind Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso, who have excelled this season.

The Daily Mail states Chelsea are interested in the services of Juventus ace Dani Alves, with the 34-year-old Brazilian potentially ending his time in Turin after just one season despite his excellent campaign for the Italian giants.

Alves has shown Barcelona over the course of the past 12 months that they made a major mistake in letting him leave the Nou Camp but his age means he’s not considered to be a long-term option for Massimiliano Allegri’s Serie A champions.

Defeat in the Champions League final to Real Madrid last night has put Juventus ready to improve their squad once again as they look to conquer Europe in the coming years- and that could mean waving goodbye to veteran ace Alves.

Whilst Alves could not be considered to be a long-term solution to Chelsea’s lack of depth on the right side of the defence, the Brazilian would be an excellent squad player and his vast experience at the top of the game would prove to be invaluable.

He’d replace the experience lost by John Terry’s departure this season and would ease the pressure on Victor Moses, giving Chelsea the option to rotate between the Nigerian and the Brazilian ace for their Premier League and Champions League campaign.

In terms of long-term options at right wing-back, Chelsea don’t really have too many candidates to consider- and signing Alves for a year or two would allow them to solve their problems in this area but keep the door option to find a more long-term solution.

Alves has 12 months to run on his deal with Juventus but an exit could easily be sanctioned this summer and the opportunity of joining Premier League champions Chelsea could be difficult for the Brazilian star to turn down.
