“Understood To Be Keen…” Reliable Journalist Hands Chelsea Major Boost Despite 45M Bid Being Rejected For Winger

Everton winger Anthony Gordon is interested in moving to Chelsea and it may encourage the Blues to return with another bid for the player, according to the Daily Mirror‘s David Maddock.

The journalist, who is usually reliable when it comes to stories close to the two Merseyside clubs, claims that Gordon is “understood to be keen” on making the switch to Stamford Bridge.

The Telegraph‘s Matt Law has confirmed that the Blues’ latest £45m offer for Gordon has been turned down by Everton, but it appears they have been given encouragement from the player to make a new proposal.

The Toffees are not in the best of shape financially and it is believed that some at the club feel selling Gordon would be the right thing to do in order to hand manager Frank Lampard additional funds to strengthen the squad.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Gordon is somewhat surprising, considering manager Thomas Tuchel has plenty of options in wide areas, but Callum Hudson-Odoi is pushing to leave the club before the transfer window shuts, while the departure of Hakim Ziyech could also be sanctioned.
