Chelsea have officially completed the signing of 38-year old former England goalkeeper Rob Green on a one-year deal.
Green won 12 England caps between 2005 and 2012 and has played for various different teams around the country, most recently with Huddersfield Town where he was released at the end of the season.
The stopper likely joins the Blues as their their third-choice goalkeeper behind Courtois and Caballero. It is believed that Chelsea are also interested in adding to their homegrown numbers, something that Green will come under.
Speaking on Chelsea’s official website, Green said: “It has been a whirlwind 24 hours. You are thinking about your career and where you want to go and then you get a phone call like this, and it is a short conversation.
“It has been a pretty dramatic time for me and I can’t wait to get started. I am absolutely delighted and it is a thrill and an honour to be here.”
But as one of the most shocking signings of the summer was completed, it’s fair to say that Twitter went into meltdown – here’s the best of the bunch.

Rob Green signing for Chelsea isn’t surprising. So many clubs sign older English players at their 3rd choice GK as they’re homegrown. City did it with Richard Wright. Every club does it. It’s a smart move. Decent keeper, will probably never play, low wages & great to have around.

Rob Green to Chelsea. Naturally he’ll move above Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the midfield pecking order.

The arrival of Rob Green should be celebrated as it may signal the departure of at least one of Gary Cahill and Danny Drinkwater.
