Tuchel Pulled Plug On Chelsea’s Pursuit Of Portuguese Superstar After Talks With Ex United Boss

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel opted against making a move for Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo following a discussion with Ralf Rangnick, according to reports in the English media.

Rangnick gave Tuchel his first job as a youth coach at Stuttgart and they have been good friends ever since. When Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly raised the idea of bringing Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge, Tuchel sought Rangnick’s advice.

It is not known what was said between the two men but it appears to have put off Tuchel from sanctioning a move for the Portuguese legend. It is not thought that Rangnick had a falling out with Ronaldo but it’s clear that the two of them see the game very differently.

In May, Rangnick effectively said that the 37-year-old can’t press, and his failings in that area were probably something that the German mentioned to Tuchel.

From the sound of things, the Blues are still in the market to recruit a forward, but they are seemingly focused on signing Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang instead.
