Tuchel Confirms Double Injury Setback Ahead Of Chelsea’s Final Two Fixtures

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Kai Havertz and Timo Werner have both suffered hamstring injuries.

Havertz was not in the matchday squad for the FA Cup final against Liverpool yesterday, while Werner was selected on the bench. In his press conference after the game, Tuchel said the pair were not in a good enough condition to play:

“Kai did not train yesterday because of hamstring problems. So he didn’t train yesterday as he thought if he trained he would injure himself. So we tried everything, left him out, tried everything medically. We did the last test today in the morning and he was not better, it was not possible. Timo felt uncomfortable in the warm-up and said he can’t play. That was hamstring as well.”

It will be interesting to see who will be available for the final two league games against Leicester and Watford next week. Havertz and Werner are not the only players carrying injuries at the moment.

Thiago Silva picked up a knee problem quite early on in the match last night and, while he did play 120 minutes, he was pictured limping heavily after the game.

A gamble was also taken on Mateo Kovacic’s fitness, with the Croatian having sustained an ankle injury only days before in the 3-0 win over Leeds. He lasted over an hour at Wembley so we shall have to wait and see whether he’s fit for the remaining fixtures.
