Torres Too Expensive For A Loan

With Andre Scurrle almost certain to sign for the Blues and with Falcao’s transfer possibly just around the corner, Torres has to do some serious thinking regarding his career. The Spaniard has been out of form since he came to Stamford Bridge and failed to live up to expectations even if he has been given an infinite number of chances. Abramovich even made an effort to bring in Torres’s former Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez hoping that he would manage to help the striker rediscover his goal scoring abilities.

Chelsea’s striker has not scored a Premier League goal since December. He has had some good performances during the last three Europa League matches and scored some goals. According to Metro, the only thing that is keeping Torres at Stamford Bridge is his transfer fee. If the Spaniard were to move to another team, Abramovich will probably lose somewhere around £30 million. He came in for £50m, but his market value has dropped considerably after his below-par performances.

There have been rumors that say Torres will be part of an exchange between the Stamford Bridge side and his former team, Atletico Madrid which would cut the costs of bringing in Falcao, but nothing is certain yet. Furthermore, the Spanish international already appeared in Adidas’s latest campaign that presented Chelsea’s new kit for next season. There would have been no purpose in doing so unless Torres is due to stay. His contract is due in 2016 and the only way he will end up playing for another team is if the Blues decide to loan him out.

It will be hard, though, to attempt to loan Torres out considering his salary. Fiorentina, who had expressed interest in the 29 year old striker, recently backed down because of the serious costs that would come with bringing Torres to Florence. Even if the Italian side repeatedly complimented Torres and always spoke highly about his abilities, the Spaniard’s wage is too big for a club such as Fiorentina. It perhaps could have been a great chance for Torres to rediscover his form, especially after declaring that his lack of efficiency is due to Chelsea’s playing style that focuses on individual players and not on teamwork, but who knows if Torres’ style would really suit Serie A.
