Torres Politely Declines Barcelona’s Advances

Barcelona were reportedly eyeing up the 29-year old as they are looking to further strengthen their attack ahead of next season. They have already clinched the signature of young hot shot Neymar from Brazilian outfit Santos, and are now apparently moving onto their next target which was thought to be Torres. The Catalans look set to lose attacker David Villa in the coming weeks and are also not certain over the future of Alexis Sanchez and young play maker Thiago Alacantara. Therefore, they are already lining up a replacement for Villa with Torres, who both paired up front for the Spanish national team not so long ago.

Also, the future of Torres at Chelsea was cast in doubt recently, with insider reports suggesting that returning manager, Jose Mourinho, deems him as being a surplus to his plans for the next season, despite Torres coming to fore during the last few weeks of the season and ending up as Chelsea’s top scorer for the campaign. There was renewed hope for the Chelsea fans and owner Roman Abramovich to see the real Torres for whom the club splashed £50 million in January 2011.

Now it looks like they will finally have a chance to see whether he rediscovers his form next season as the player has quashed any talks of a potential move away from Stamford Bridge by speaking to Spanish newspaper AS and stating his desire to remain at Chelsea. He was reported by Metro as saying, “I want to continue, I want to complete the contract I signed and continue winning trophies and I would like to be the best in the world in my position again,”

“It’s always nice to hear about interest from clubs like Barcelona, but my plan is to stay at Chelsea.”

With Torres determined to remain at Chelsea, it will be interesting to see how the next season pans out for him. Will he finally return to his best form, or will he cause further agony for Chelsea, Abramovich and Mourinho?
