Torres Hints At Spanish Return

Torres Hints At Spanish Return

According to ESPNFC, Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has hinted a move back to Atletico Madrid after the Spaniard expressed his delight at his former club’s challenge of the league title after the turmoil down the years.

Torres’ career began at Atletico in 1995, when he joined the club as a youth player. After six years of development, he was offered a professional contract by the club, and he went on to play 214 games for the outfit. These games also included financially hard spells for the club when he took the responsibility of being the captain at the age of 19. Liverpool signed him in 2007, and Torres displayed blistering form, scoring 65 goals in 102 appearances before getting an injury at the World Cup and struggling to regain his form.

Abramovich, who was a long-standing admirer of Torres hoped the change of scenery would be enough to reinvigorate the striker. However, his move to Chelsea in 2011 did not deliver a return to form for the Spaniard but actually brought a further downswing in his fortunes, as the striker struggled to score in all competitions. In 101 appearances, Torres has scored a mere 19 Barclays Premier League goal, not what you would expect for a £50 million acquisition fee.

A move back to Spain would do his career a world of good, as the intensity of the Premier League can sometimes not be to a players liking. The only question that arises with this prospect – Will Atletico be able to afford Torres’ price tag?
