Torres Could Cost Chelsea More

According to the Daily Mail, Fernando Torres could make Chelsea pay more than they already have, if the London based club wish to offload their £50 million acquisition in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea’s 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace last weekend may have been a crucial tie in the club’s quest of the Barclays Premier League, but it also typified what has been missing in the squad this season. When Jose Mourinho rejoined the club last summer, he had crucial decisions to make, and one of them was to pick which strikers he wanted to keep beyond the summer. Not only did the Portuguese manager choose to keep Torres in the starting eleven despite his continual poor form, but also sent out Romelu Lukaku on loan again. The Belgian striker has proven his worth in the Premier League two seasons in a row, once with West Bromwich Albion, and this season with Roberto Martinez’s Everton. Mourinho did sign Andre Schurrle early in the summer, but the German operates more as a winger than a centre forward.

The deal in place to take Torres from Liverpool to Chelsea had been much publicised, and it has now emerged that the striker could ask for compensation if the club decide to sell him in the summer.
