Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has privately admitted that he deserves to be playing second fiddle to Marcos Alonso, according to The Athletic‘s Simon Johnson.
The England international has conceded that he wasn’t in the best of form during the closing weeks of Frank Lampard’s time in charge and he believes new manager Thomas Tuchel has been right to overlook him.
Chilwell’s apparent admission, that he needs to up his game, has gone down well with supporters on Twitter who believe he has the right mentality and character to make it at the club:

To be honest, Chilwell maybe being a bit harsh on himself. Despite some below-par displays, the left-back has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers this season.
Whilst it is understandable that Tuchel may favour Alonso at times, due to his capabilities as a wingback, you’d expect Chilwell’s superior quality to win out eventually. It remains to be seen, though, who will start against Liverpool tonight.
