Three Unexpected Transfers That Could Refresh Chelsea’s Look

The truth is that Chelsea will need to sign some new players this Summer. It`s either that or they will have to decide on which out of the numerous names sent on loan could return and handle the pressure of actually playing for the Blues. Looking at those who are sent on loan, it`s hard to find the perfect match for any of the three key positions which need to be filled for next season. Hiddink’s lot will need a striker, a midfielder and a central defender to replace Falcao/Remy, Ramires and/or possibly Mikel plus Terry or possibly Zouma.

When browsing through the European market, there are three players who fit in perfectly for each position and also come with decent price tags so to speak. Two of those are long term solutions – long term as in players who will stay with the club for at least 7-8 years.

  1. Michy Batshuayi – this 22-year-old striker would be perfect to fill in for Remy and Falcao. He is one of the best in Europe right now. He managed to score 15 times and provide 8 assists this season for Marseille who brought him in in 2014. Even though he just signed an extension until 2020, that might just be a way to increase his value. He would be the best investment to make as he could gradually start to make his way into the first team. He is definitely good enough to be a substitute and in a couple of years he will be good enough to be the first choice for Chelsea.
  2. Shkodran Mustafi – this guy is Valencia’s hidden gem. He was raised in Hamburg and then played for Everton’s U21 team. He also played for Sampdoria before moving to Spain. He developed in one of the best center-backs in La Liga and he is definitely a name worth considering. He is not that expensive and could surely consider an offer from Chelsea even if a spot in the starting eleven is not guaranteed from the start. Considering how things are looking right now, he could get a pretty good chance to make an impression right from the start.
  3. Blaise Matuidi – he is the seasoned midfielder who could replace Ramires. This 28-year-old is the player who does not represent a long-term solution. Once again, long term means that he would stick around for at least 5+ years which is probably not the case. Even so, the Frenchman would be a massive win for Chelsea on the transfer market. He is a rare kind of player, a player similar to Essien or Makelele. The biggest issue with Matuidi is that he is represented by Mino Raiola who does not manage any Chelsea players and has also handled Lukaku’s move away from Stamford Bridge. According to Metro though, a serious bid from Chelsea could make things happen.
