Three Moves Hiddink Is Preparing To Make This Winter

Looking at what happened during the last couple of months you could say that almost the entire squad needs to be looked at. Hiddink proved it`s not the case by managing to turn things around in under a month. There are still a lot of things that need work and some transfers would be in place. Even if he is an interim coach he still needs to think in perspective and spend money in a smart way. What does that mean? It means that he needs to sign players who, no matter who takes over, will develop and help the club regain glory. Here is a list of three players who could be excellent long term investments and who can be integrated with the group at Stamford Bridge starting this January.

  1. Alex Teixeira – it looks like a matter of time until Teixeira comes to the Premier League. Hopefully he will come to Chelsea who definitely need the extra fire power. The only issue with the 25-year-old is that he is more of an attacking midfielder or a second striker. He is not like Falcao or Remy. This means he is most likely to be featured next to Costa rather than to replace the Spaniard. This brings up another problem: which of the attacking midfielders should be set aside? Willian is in brilliant form, Hazard is, well, Hazard and no matter how bad he plays he is still very valuable; that leaves Pedro and Oscar – it`s hard to leave either of the two aside as they contribute to the defense more than Teixeira is expected to. There would be a solution: turn the Brazilian into a striker and use him in a similar position to that of Messi when aligned with Sanchez and Pedro.
  2. Marco Verratti – signing this midfielder is the biggest gamble out of the three. Even though he looks strong, quick and determined, the Premier League could be too much for him. Finding himself in front of Kompany or Mangala could prove too much of a challenge. Sure, the French League is pretty physical but nothing compares to what happens in the UK. He would bring speed and a lot of determination down the middle and could become a good link between the defense and the offense. He is young, he could be looking for a move and he could be a good way to invest.
  3. John Stones – seen by many as the rightful heir to Terry’s spot, Stones has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while. According to Metro, the Blues could be willing to pay Everton their asking price which is £50million. It would be extreme for a 21-year-old defender to cost that much but he is being monitored by Barcelona, Real and several other big clubs. He could prove to be the right player to start building a new defense around.
