Chelsea are expected to pay around £45m to sign Manchester City defender Nathan Ake, according to multiple reports in the English media.
The Blues are close to announcing deals for Ake’s teammate Raheem Sterling, as well as Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly but it looks as though the Dutchman could also be arriving at Stamford Bridge very soon.
However, fans on Twitter are not especially pleased that Thomas Tuchel’s side are paying so much to bring in Ake:
This is a terrible deal but Koulibaly makes up for it. Hopefully Ake falls through and we get Kounde + Koulibaly

Worst deal, can splash that cash for better defenders… Man City will buy kounde or anyone better with same amount…

There are equally valid arguments both for and against signing Ake. In terms of the negatives, paying such a sizeable amount for a player who hasn’t exactly pulled up any trees since moving to City seems a bit excessive, especially as (at 27), he isn’t exactly a youngster anymore.
On the other hand, Ake has a lot of experience in the Premier League, he is classed as homegrown, and he is capable of playing in more than one position. For Tuchel, it seems, the benefits outway the drawbacks.
