“There Is No Doubt About That…” Carragher Issues Verdict On Chelsea’s Deadline Day Signing

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has backed Chelsea’s decision to recruit Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.

Some have questioned why manager Thomas Tuchel has decided to bring in the 33-year-old, especially as he left Arsenal under a cloud just over seven months ago, but Carragher believes the Blues will be getting a top performer:

“He’s a quality player, there is no doubt about that. I think it’s a good signing. People may question Arsenal’s role in this and the fact they let him go for free, and now Chelsea are paying money for him 12 months later. I think it’s a good signing for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea, and also the right decision from Mikel Arteta – look at where Arsenal are right now.”

“We know Aubameyang brings goals and quality but at times there are maybe situations and misdemeanours off the pitch or within the dressing room and Arteta couldn’t stand for that. But Tuchel knows him well from their time at Borussia Dortmund and, as a neutral, I’m delighted he’s back in the Premier League because he’s a brilliant player.”

As Carragher says, if anyone can get the best out of Aubameyang, it is Tuchel. The Gabonese international was transformed into a prolific centre-forward by the German during their time together at Dortmund, and it seems the pair get on very well.

At Arsenal, he fell foul of Arteta’s strict discipline, but you would think that Tuchel will know how to handle the player more delicately.

Although Aubameyang did sign for the club on deadline day, he is not currently available for selection as he is still recovering from a broken jaw he suffered during a burglary on his home.
