The Top 5 Best Performing Premier League Players Of 2021 So Far

We are now three months into 2021 and the CIES Football Observatory have decided to rank every single player’s performance in the Premier League so far this year.

The statisticians have rated six areas of each player’s game: rigour, recovery, take on, chance creation, distribution and shooting, based on the Opta data for the last 1000 minutes they have played.

Some of the names on this list won’t surprise you but I think many won’t be able to guess who has ended up being named number one.

Press the next page as we countdown the five best performing players in the Premier League so far in 2021.

5) Harry Kane – Tottenham (Rating – 83.1)

The Spurs forward has scored an extremely impressive 10 goals in 16 appearances since the turn of the year, but it isn’t just his goalscoring that has been a standout feature of his game.

In all competitions this season, Kane has also racked up 16 assists. Combined with 27 goals, he is averaging more than one goal contribution every game.

4) Luke Shaw – Manchester United (Rating – 83.4)

The full-back’s performances for Manchester United have been widely praised by pundits this season, and it seems the penny has finally dropped for the 25-year-old.

Shaw looks likely to compete with Ben Chilwell to be first-choice left-back at the European Championships for England this summer.

3) Wilfried Ndidi – Leicester City (Rating – 85.3)

The Foxes have been performing consistently well this campaign, and find themselves third in the table with nine games remaining. The Nigerian midfielder has played a pivotal role in their form, especially since the New Year.

Ndidi has actually scored one goal and provided three assists in 2021, which is more goal contributions than he managed in the entire of last season.

2) Ruben Dias – Manchester City (Rating – 89.4)

The Portuguese international is a strong candidate for PFA Player of the Year after marshalling Manchester City’s backline. The Citizens have conceded just 21 goals in 30 games this campaign.

Considering they let in 35 last year, Dias has had a real impact on his team’s defence. He was certainly worth the £65m City paid for him.

1) Jorginho – Chelsea (Rating – 89.5)

A shock winner for a lot of people, but the Italian international has been a key figure since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as manager back in January.

Jorginho has scored three goals and taken part in seven league victories in 2021. Whether he is the best performing Premier League player, though, many may dispute that but the statistics don’t lie.
