The TEN Chelsea Under 21 Stars Who Have Flown Out For The Abu Dhabi Training Camp (PART 1)

With a sizeable number of the club’s senior team away at the World Cup, Chelsea boss Graham Potter has called up a fair few of the development squad for the trip to Abu Dhabi.

In addition to the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson (who we have written about before), ten other Under 21 players will be present at the training camp.

Over the next couple of days, we will be profiling all ten youngsters, tracking their paths through the Cobham academy.

Press the next page as we look at the first five.

Eddie Beach

The Welshman is a goalkeeper who joined the Blues’ academy from Southampton in the summer after putting in some impressive performances for the Saints.

Beach was part of the team that won the Under-18 Premier League southern section before making it to the final where they lost to Manchester City. Since moving to Cobham, he has established himself as the Under 21s’ first choice keeper.

Bashir Humphreys

The ball-playing centre-back has captained both the Under 18 and the Development Squad. His technical ability means he is also able to play as a holding midfielder if required.

Humphreys has faced senior opposition in the EFL Trophy, helping the Under 21s to impressive wins against Leyton Orient and Peterborough this season.

Alfie Gilchrist

The centre-half was picked up from QPR as an Under 11 and he has progressed through the ranks at Cobham to become a regular starter for the Under 18s and Under 21s.

Gilchrist was part of the team that reached the FA Youth Cup semi-final, as well as winning the Under 18 Premier League last season. He is now featuring regularly in Premier League 2 fixtures this campaign.

Dion Rankine

The 20-year-old possesses a lot of pace, and he is equally comfortable playing either as a wingback or further up the pitch as an out and out winger.

Rankine signed his first professional contract back in October 2019 and he has progressed to become a regular starter for the Under 21s. This season, he has played in all of the Development Squad’s EFL Trophy games, helping them win three of their four games against senior teams.

Josh Brooking

The centre-back signed a brand new professional contract in the summer, extending his stay at Cobham for another year as he looks to make his senior breakthrough.

Brooking is described as an aggressive defender who loves one v one duels. He has been a regular starter for the Under 21s over the past eighteen months.
