Expectations may have to be tempered slightly as Lampard gets his feet under the table as the club’s new manager.
He will take time to get the team playing as he wants, and the transfer ban may make his first season in charge a challenging one.
However, Lampard showed at Derby that he can play a style of football that will excite the fans, and his footballing knowledge and experience should help him ease into his new role.
Fans will also be hoping the new Chelsea boss can blood some of the talented youngsters at the club who deserve a chance at first-team level.
