The Four Midfielders That Chelsea Could Sign During The Summer Transfer Window

After looking at left-back and centre-back targets over the last couple of weeks, we now move on to Chelsea’s options to strengthen the midfield.

Both Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour will be returning from loan spells in the coming weeks, and manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to assess the pair in pre-season training.

However, even if one of them becomes part of the first-team setup next campaign, the Blues are still likely to look at signing another holding midfielder.

Press the next page as we name four players Chelsea may target to reinforce their numbers in the middle of the park.

Ibrahim Sangare

The Ivorian is believed to have a €35m (£30m) release clause in his contract at PSV Eindhoven so he will be a tempting prospect for a lot of teams.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle have all been keeping tabs on Sangare and it will be interesting to see if the Blues are the ones to make the first move for the 24-year-old.

Declan Rice

By far the least likely of the potential options on this list. Some sources have claimed that West Ham would be willing to negotiate his sale at £75m but most believe that West Ham won’t accept anything less than £150m.

Tuchel is known to be a big fan of Rice, as was previous coach Frank Lampard, but despite the longstanding interest from Chelsea, a deal this summer looks a long shot.

Adrien Rabiot

Juventus are expected to make the France international available for transfer this summer and, just like with Rice, Tuchel is a known admirer of the player.

The fact that Rabiot could be signed for a rather affordable price means that a deal that could well be done, if the club don’t manage to land other options on their list.

Konrad Laimer

The Blues reportedly scouted the Austrian last season, along with a number of other Premier League clubs. Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been mentioned as potential suitors as well.

However, reports in Germany claim Bayern Munich are the favourites to land Laimer, although there have been no developments on the transfer recently. The 25-year-old could also be available for a relatively low fee, considering he is out of contract next summer.
