The Five Wing Backs That Chelsea Could Sign During The Summer Transfer Window

Chelsea are expected to strengthen their options on both wings over the course of this summer.

Marcos Alonso is believed to be keen on moving back to Spain, with Barcelona favourites to sign him, while there are also doubts over the future of captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Blues have been linked with a number of different fullbacks and wingbacks in the last six months and we have decided to assess their suitability in this article.

Press the next page as we look at five wingbacks who could be signed by Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

Sergino Dest

The Blues are said to have considered a loan move for the American during the January transfer window but a deal did not materialise.

There are, though, suggestions that Chelsea will revive their interest in Dest this summer, with the player capable of playing on both flanks. Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors after the appointment of the player’s former manager, Erik ten Hag.

David Raum

The 24-year-old had an outstanding first season in the Bundesliga for Hoffenheim, having joined from Greuther Furth last summer.

Raum scored three goals and provided an impressive 13 assists in all competitions, which suggests that he would be a decent replacement for Alonso on the left flank.

Achraf Hakimi

The Blues pursued the Moroccan before he opted to make the move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer but it is believed that manager Thomas Tuchel remains interested in the player.

It is doubtful whether there is a realistic chance of signing Hakimi but, if he were to make the switch to Stamford Bridge, it would suggest that Reece James would be mostly used as a centre-half.

Marc Cucurella

Chelsea and Manchester City are both said to be keen on recruiting the Spaniard, who was Brighton’s Player of the Year after an excellent debut season on the south coast.

The Seagulls are savvy operators, though, and reports indicate that they will not sell Cucurella for less than £45m this summer. That would be a lot of money for someone who would probably start out as Ben Chilwell’s understudy.

Borna Sosa

Most of the links to the Croatian international have been from sources in the German media, but the wingback did perform well for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga last campaign.

Sosa picked up eight assists in 28 league appearances, and the fact that he is only 24 does mean there is potential for him to improve further in the future.
