“That’s Worth 220 Million” Alan Shearer Slams Tuchel After Post Match Comments

Alan Shearer has dismissed Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel‘s claim that his team is suffering from fatigue after the 1-1 draw against Brighton last night.

Tuchel said he could not be angry with his team, after dropping more points at the Amex, as some of his players needed rest. However, Shearer pointed to the Blues’ bench as he disagreed with the German’s comments:

“Don’t accept that, I’m not having that. I get it’s been a tough time for every football club in the world, they’ve all had very difficult circumstances, as has everyone, not just football. But he’s got a bench tonight that’s worth £220million. Kovacic, Havertz, Werner, Pulisic… [Tuchel] left Mount out on Saturday, brought Mount back in tonight.”

Shearer’s remarks are hard to argue with. Chelsea have a very big first-team squad, and they have depth in most positions that can rival even Manchester City.

The main issue yesterday evening was attitude. Some of the players on the pitch were not fighting for every ball, and Brighton were undoubtedly the hungrier of the two teams.

It is clear that the squad is low in confidence too, and that will affect performances, but Shearer is right to say that Tuchel is making excuses when he starts mentioning tiredness as a factor.
