‘That’s A Bargain’ ‘He’s No Better Than Kepa’ Fans React As Journalist Confirms Chelsea’s Interest In 15M Rated Keeper

Raya

Chelsea and Manchester United have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, according to The Telegraph reporter Sam Dean.

The journalist says the three clubs are expected to battle it out for the Spaniard in the summer, with the shot-stopper likely to be available for around £15m to £20m:

Supporters on Twitter are rather split on whether Raya would be a good addition to the squad. His availability for such a low price does make him an attractive target but some believe he would not be an improvement on the Blues’ current crop of keepers:

Raya has a decent save percentage this season (74.8%) but it is not as good as Kepa‘s (80%). If we delve further into the numbers too, the Brentford star doesn’t compare favourably with Chelsea’s current first-choice keeper.

When we subtract goals conceded from the metric Post Shot xG against, we see that Raya is no better than average (+0.1). In contrast Kepa’s figure is +6.3, suggesting he has been in much better form than his compatriot this campaign.
