Terry Signs One-Year Extension At Chelsea

John Terry has decided to sign a one-year extension to his contract at Chelsea, hence extending his long stint with the club that began in 1995, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

With news coming in of David Luiz agreeing a move to Barcelona, Chelsea need stability in the back four, and Ashley Cole’s apparent last game for the club does not help the cause. Gary Cahill has held the back four together well with Terry, but will need one more season of learning from his compatriot before he can take over the responsibilities.

Terry began his Chelsea career as a youth graduate, but was graduated to the senior side soon. The 33-year old quickly became a regular feature in the starting eleven, and his form accelerated under Jose Mourinho. Even in the manager’s second stint, Terry has looked comfortable playing regularly despite his unexplained long spell on the sidelines under Benitez.

In a series of controversies, Terry found himself stripped off the England captaincy, and in response, the defender announced his retirement from international football on 23rd September, 2012. Despite the call for a return for the World Cup in Brazil, Terry denied having ever considered joining Cahill in Roy Hodgson’s side even though many believe that it was a mistake for Hodgson not try to talk JT into coming back into the England fold as they are surely a better side with the Premier League’s best centre-half this season in their side.
