Terry Keeps Chelsea On Top With Late Winner Over Everton

It was a tough game for Chelsea who reminded fans how badly the team needs a striker. With 24 shots at the end of 90 minutes, it was Terry’s desperate dive which got Mourinho his three points. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that 35 year old Frank Lampard was the one with the assist.

Despite creating a lot of opportunities, the Blues had few actual clearcut chances to score during the first half. Willian, Oscar and Hazard who probably represent the best midfield line of the Premier League struggled to get past Everton’s defense but failed to find the target.

Last minute choice, Steven Naismith, who found out he was starting minutes before the game, had to fill in for Traore, but had little luck getting past Cahill and Terry.

Eto’o was the first to really test Howard. Hazard and the Cameroonian exchanged some quick passes but Chelsea’s striker failed to open the scoring.

Terry was definitely the man of the match as he got close to scoring just a few minutes before half-time.

Everton picked up the pace after the first half and dominated when it came to possession. Despite not having the best performance of the season, Chelsea still got a few shots in, only to be denied by Howard who did a great job against Hazard and Ivanovic. Ramires also tried his luck but failed to hit the target.

Chelsea scored the winning goal with three minutes to go. Lampard’s free kick found fellow compatriot John Terry diving in front of goal. The Blues’ defender managed his third goal of the season and kept the Stamford Bridge side on top until next Saturday when they will face Fulham.
