Superstar attacker is the ideal summer signing for Conte’s Chelsea

Chelsea have thus far failed to build significantly on their Premier League winning side, with Antonio Conte’s outfit yet to add to their ranks in the transfer market- although moves now appear to be on the verge of completion.

Recent reports indicate that Willy Caballero, Alex Sandro and Tiemoue Bakayoko are closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge but even that trio of recruits wouldn’t stand-out as exceptional recruits that can provide a decisive impact next season.

However, The Sun reports that Chelsea have enquired about the services of Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski and securing a deal for the Polish striker would send shockwaves throughout Europe, not just the Premier League.

Chelsea have made it clear that Diego Costa is not in their plans for next season and the Spaniard looks set to leave over the course of coming months, whilst Michy Batshuayi could follow- leaving Chelsea with no senior recognised strikers within their ranks.

Antonio Conte’s side therefore need to strengthen their ranks in this area significantly and Lewandowski would be a stellar recruit, arguably giving Chelsea the best striker in the Premier League and one that is more than capable of filing the void left by Costa.

Whether Bayern Munich will sell is another matter but Lewandowski, now 28, is reportedly unsettled in Bavaria and isn’t pleased with the relationship Carlo Ancelotti has offered him since taking charge at the Allianz Arena last summer.

Those frustrations have been revealed by Lewandowski’s agent Maik Bathel, who stated earlier this month:

“Robert told me that he got no support and that the coach [ex-Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti] gave no call to help him in the last game to win the top-scorer title. He was disappointed as I have ever seen him before.”

Renowned as one of the most prolific strikers in world football, Lewandowski would likely command a club record fee from Chelsea and Bayern would likely fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the forward- although they could reinvest their earnings in a new recruit.

Chelsea’s reluctance to pay big prices, which is shown by their concern to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, but they may need to change that stance if they are to move forward following their success in the Premier League.
