Spanish Heavyweights Target Summer Swoop For Out Of Form Chelsea Star

Atletico Madrid are targeting Chelsea fullback Marcos Alonso, according to reports in Spain.

The La Liga side’s manager Diego Simeone is targeting a replacement for Lucas Hernandez, who is leaving for Bayern Munich in the summer for €80m.

Former Chelsea fullback Felipe Luis is also departing the Wanda Metropolitano on a free transfer when his contract expires so Atletico are desperately seeking a new left-back.

Alonso has been in pretty poor form this campaign, but the Blues are still unlikely to sell up considering the club’s transfer ban.

With no means to replace the Spanish international, it seems that the defender will likely stay put at Stamford Bridge unless Maurizio Sarri has other plans.

Emerson Palmieri has featured more prominently in the second half of the season, while Kenedy will be returning from a loan spell from Newcastle this summer.

Still, Alonso has featured regularly under Sarri during his time in charge, having made 39 appearances in all competitions, and it would be a surprise to see the 28-year-old leave.
