Spanish Clubs Lining Up For Fernando Torres

News broke out over the last few days suggesting that there was a dark cloud hovering above Fernando Torres’ career at Chelsea after it was reported that the Spaniard was set to meet new manager Jose Mourinho to discuss his place and role in the team for next season, before making any decision regarding his future.

Sections of the media were stating that Mourinho deems the 29-year old as surplus to the requirements in his plans and was probably looking to offload him before he plans to steps up in his chase for Brazilian international, Hulk, after falling behind in the chase of Edinson Cavani, who is angling towards a move to Real Madrid.

Torres has largely failed to live up to the massive expectations, which were thrust on his shoulders following his record breaking £50 million move from Liverpool back in January 2011. He has only been a shadow of the player which convinced Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, to break the bank and land the Spanish international. His troubles in front of goal have seen him receive severe criticism along with being made the butt of many jokes within the footballing fraternity.

It now looks like Torres is closer than he has ever been before to quitting Stamford Bridge in the summer and perhaps move to another country. It was reported only a few days ago that Barcelona are interested in signing him up as an impact super-sub. However, Metro are now churning out stories which state that his former club, Atletico Madrid, are ready to go up against Barcelona to try and re-sign Torres.

Atletico have money to spend this summer following the high profile exit of their star striker Radamel Falcao to French outfit Monaco. They are looking for someone to fill the void and have turned towards their former star, who could possibly need exactly this to reignite his faltering career. Do you see a prospective move in the cards?
