Southampton Lining Up January Offer For Out Of Favour Chelsea Star

Southampton are looking to make a move for Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill when the transfer window reopens, according to reports in the UK.

The 32-year-old is no longer first-choice under manager Maurizio Sarri and was again named on the bench for the Blues’ comfortable 3-0 win over the Saints yesterday.

Cahill has already hinted that he may leave Stamford Bridge in January if his game time doesn’t improve, while Sarri has confirmed he has talked to the England international about his playing situation.

The defender has also attracted the interest of Championship clubs Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa but the Chelsea star will likely be keen to remain in the Premier League.

Cahill has not been frozen out by Sarri, with the veteran having been picked by the Italian to captain the side against Vidi in the Europa League on Thursday night.

However, it is clear that the manager prefers the centre-back pairing of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz, and only an injury to one of the pair may allow him a way back into the first team on a more regular basis.
