Souness Warns Liverpool That Chelsea’s Young Stars Could Halt Spell Of Dominance

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has warned his former club that Chelsea could well prevent the Reds from starting an era of dominance in English football.

The Blues are just eight points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side after 12 games, despite the Merseysiders only having dropped two points this season, and Souness feels that Frank Lampard’s young team, along with Manchester City and United will mean Liverpool won’t have it all their own way:

“You can never say they will go into a period of dominance because you have to look at City, they are going nowhere, they will be around for a long time. Then there is the emergence of Chelsea’s youngsters, will they get better over the next three or four years? And Manchester United will be back, guaranteed. It’s just a case of when so you can’t say Liverpool are going to dominate.”

It has been an extremely impressive start to Lampard’s time to charge, particularly because of the transfer ban being in place. A number of the club’s young players, including Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have really stepped up to the plate and will only get better in the future.

Considering they are not too behind Liverpool even now, there has to be justifiable excitement about what is to come in subsequent seasons under the guidance of Lampard.
