Sneijder To Chelsea For £15 million?

Wesley Sneijder could be on his way to Stamford Bridge if the Blues can manage to pay a fee of £15 million, according to the Dutchman’s current club Galatasaray’s president, Unal Aysal, who recently bought the midfielder for £7 million from Inter Milan.

Sneijder’s career has not gone exactly as planned, with the player having troubles with presidents at clubs. The midfielder’s career began at Ajax, where he started as a youth academy graduate. He was then offered his first professional contract, which he accepted. He played 126 matches for the Dutch giants, scoring 43 times, before he was recognized by Real Madrid as a future potential star.

The Galacticos signed Sneijder for a record fee of nearly £25 million, but his career at the Santiago Bernabeu was not a success. The Dutchman spent just two seasons at Madrid, playing 52 matches, scoring 11 goals. However, issues with the internal management caused him to move to Inter Milan, where he played well under Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager would again want to manage  a player of Sneijder’s quality, a player who needs the right manager to succeed. Sneijder’s skill was also recognized by Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, who reportedly made a substantial bid to sign the player a few seasons ago, but the bid was controversially turned down by Inter, who had issues of their own with Sneijder’s salary.

With Frank Lampard aging, and possibly playing his final years at Chelsea, 28-year old Sneijder would be a perfect long term replacement for the England international. Sneijder’s vast experience of playing internationally and in European competitions would help Mourinho’s cause, as he looks to add experience and quality into his side for next season.

The fee of £15 million being quoted by the Turkish club should not financially be a problem for Abramovich, but could be for Mourinho, who would be sanctioned a transfer kitty for the summer. Mourinho would want to select the right players and spend wisely, and only time will tell whether the former Madrid manager chooses to bid for his former player or not.

According to the Metro, Aysal confirmed the news, and said, “If there was a bid of £15million or above, we will consider a sale.”
