Sky Sports Pundit Calls On Chelsea To Turn Down Chance To Sign £27m Rated German Ace

Darren Bent believes Chelsea should not be looking to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner as it could unsettle their current number nine Tammy Abraham. The Sky Sports pundit thinks there is no need to bring in another forward at this time, with Abraham having started the season so well:

“Don’t go and get a centre-forward for £60m because that’s going to upset Tammy and that applecart and I don’t like to see that happen because Tammy’s going really, really well at the minute.”

“He’s comfortable in what he’s doing, he’s playing really, really well. He’s got a bit of pressure on him because obviously [Frank] Lampard’s made him the main man and you don’t need to go and sign someone like Werner.”

Werner reportedly has a release clause of only £27m, after signing a new contract last summer, and the German international has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.

With such a high calibre player available for such a low price, it may be hard to resist making a move for the striker. However, you can see where Bent is coming from in regards to Abraham.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a regular first-team player, having scored nine goals in 11 Premier League appearances so far this campaign.

Werner may, though, not come in to be a direct competitor for Abraham with the German also able to play out wide.
