Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez has admitted that he liked watching Frank Lampard and Chelsea when he was growing up. Speaking in an interview, the centre-back was quoted as saying:
“I would have liked to play with Lampard. I always used to watch Chelsea as a kid, loved them.”
The Uruguayan international is reportedly on the Blues’ list of transfer targets this summer and following the centre-half’s remarks, supporters on Twitter are hopeful that the club will put a bid in for the 25-year-old:

Gimenez is certainly a top-class defender, but with a release clause of €120m (£108m), and three years remaining on his contract, it will be difficult to prise him away from Atletico.
It is also uncertain whether the Uruguayan is, in fact, Chelsea’s top centre-back target, with reports suggesting that Lampard is keen on the club signing West Ham’s Declan Rice instead.
There have also been claims in recent days that the Blues are after Brighton captain Lewis Dunk and Manchester City’s John Stones but many fans will be hoping the London club switch their attention to Gimenez, following these comments.
