Should Costa Miss Out On The Next Euro Qualifiers?

Chelsea seem to have found their striker. Costa has had an incredible season so far, managing to score 8 goals up until now. Unfortunately, the Brazilian born Spanish international is not running at full capacity according to Mourinho. Apparently, the 25 year old is being bothered by the same hamstring injury which kept him from playing the Champions League final last season. It is a recurring problem which can only be resolved with a lot of rest. Despite trying to avoid stressing his muscles too much during training, Costa is still in pain after each game. According to Metro, Mourinho suggested that the striker should not be called in to represent Spain for the Euro qualifiers.

Costa is far from being fit enough to handle international matches as well. He is barely pushing himself during training when he spends most of the time resting in order to be ready for the next games. With Chelsea being involved in several competitions, Costa could use the time he would spend playing for Spain as a well-deserved resting period.

Mourinho also pointed out that long-term both Spain and Chelsea could benefit from Costa using the international break for the Euro qualifiers as a resting period. With the two weeks he might be able to use to recover, he might just return to his full potential, physically speaking. Costa is on very thin ice when it comes to his muscle condition. Putting continuous stress on his hamstring might result in a bad tear which will put him out for a long time.
