Should Chelsea Spend Big On Felipe Luis?

The 29-year-old, Felipe Luis enjoyed a terrific season with Atletico as they incredibly finished above Real Madrid and Barcelona to clinch the La Liga title on the final day of the season. They also came within minutes of securing a historic Champions League title but eventually lost out to arch-rivals Real Madrid.

With out-of-contract Cole expected to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, the Blues have been linked with a host of left-backs to replace the seasoned veteran. Cesar Azpilicueta deployed in that role last season, but he is expected to switch to his favoured right-back position next season.

Although the Brazilian enjoyed a superlative season with Atletico, Chelsea shouldn’t spend big money to lure Luis to Stamford Bridge. With FFP regulations restricting Manchester City next season, Chelsea should be mindful of spending big and €24 million for a 29-year-old left-back doesn’t make financial sense.

Luis is not a striker who can be the difference in tight games and if Chelsea want to spend big, so they rather focus on young Luke Shaw, whose fine season has been rewarded with a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
