Sergio Aguero’s Transfer To Chelsea Quashed

Sky Sports this week reported that Chelsea were seriously interested in signing Sergio Aguero from Manchester City. The Blues are in desperate need of a striker this summer, with Diego Costa almost certain to leave the club, and rumours of an interest in Aguero very quickly blew up and left fans excited at the prospect.

Aguero has been one of the best strikers in world football for years, consistently finishing season after season with bags of goals and world class performances. The Argentine was signed in 2011 for £38m from Atletico Madrid and has three years left on his current City deal. In the six years he has been at the Etihad, Aguero has scored on 169 occasions, winning two Premier League titles.

The striker is often rumoured with a move away from City, mostly to Real Madrid, but the 29-year-old is usually quick to put rumours to bed by expressing his desire to win the Champions League with the club.

However, with City’s rather boastful front line, and rumours of Alexis Sanchez and Aubameyang potentially joining the club this summer – it has only helped to fuel speculation of Aguero moving on.

Unfortunately for Chelsea though, Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak was quick to quash rumours of Aguero moving away. When asked if the Argentine would stay, Al Mubarak said “Absolutely. There’s never been a doubt about that. I’ve read a lot of the speculation on this and it’s ridiculous.”

“Sergio Aguero is one of the best players in the world. We are a team that aspires to win every competition we compete in. Having Sergio Aguero as part of the squad is an absolute must. It has never been in doubt.”

City manager Pep Guardiola was also insistent that his star striker would not be sold.

“Every press conference [the question is asked],” said Guardiola. “Okay, guys. He will be [at City] next season. Happy? Good. Perfect.”
