Schurrle To Chelsea Deal Unbelievably Hits Snag

Schurrle To Chelsea Deal Unbelievably Hits SnagChelsea have been linked with the German attacker for the last few months and it looks like newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho’s first task since returning to Stamford Bridge will be to put the finishing touches to this long drawn out saga which we thought was over when we reported on it last week. Schurrle’s club Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea have reportedly agreed for a transfer already along with the striker himself reaching an agreement on personal terms with the London club.

The deal hinged on Leverkusen’s interest in Chelsea’s young winger, De Bruyne, as they wanted to bring in the 21-year old and were keen on including him in the deal, and bringing De Bruyne to Leverkusen for maybe a season long loan, or more. The deal looked to go be going through with Schurrle and De Bruyne going in opposite directions, however Dortmund have now entered the fray and have jeopardized this deal.

The UEFA Champions League runners-up have sounded out their interest in the Belgian wide man, and sections of the media also suggest that De Bruyne personally prefers a move to Dortmund than to Leverkusen. This was confirmed by SkySports as Borussia Dortmund’s director of sport Michael Zorc revealed to Germany’s Kicker magazine that Dortmund is De Bruyne’s first preference. “De Bruyne only wants to come to us,” he said.

With De Bruyne’s wishes now out in the open, it is very much likely that this could drastically reduce Schurrle’s chances of joining Chelsea, unless and until they arrive at a different sort of agreement with Leverkusen, which perhaps does not involve De Bruyne at all.

With Chelsea’s need for new attackers, Mourinho might have to possibly look elsewhere if the Schurrle deal does not work out. Will Dortmund indirectly ruin Chelsea’s hopes of bringing the highly rated German international to Stamford Bridge by swooping for De Bruyne, or will the two parties manage to come to some sort of agreement and pull off this deal somehow?
