Schurrle Takes A Jab At Marin

Schurrle Takes A Jab At Marin

According to ESPN, Andre Schurrle has assured Chelsea fans that his performances at the club will be better than that of his compatriot Marko Marin, the latter of which could not live up to the expectations of the supporters.

Chelsea have been active in the transfer market ever since the end of last season, and Jose Mourinho had been looking to strengthen his squad with quality. On the brighter side, the manager will be happy about the pre-season campaign which has seen the side lose just one match against Spanish giants Real Madrid. The Barclays Premier League has entered its first week, and Chelsea will be looking to strengthen their title credentials by bagging maximum wins in the opening month.

Manchester City have been the most active out of the top four, and have spent the most money over their star signings. Last year saw City struggle to score in matches despite performing well, and have now pumped their attack line by the addition of Stevan Jovetic, Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo.

These high profile signings by the Manchester club means Chelsea’s new signings will have to perform to the best of their abilities to fend of City’s title challenge. Mourinho’s arrival has certainly sparked positivity in the camp, but the likes of Schurrle, who do not have Premier League experience, cannot afford to lay easy on the scoring chart.

Schurrle was one of three big name signings made by Chelsea. Experienced goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and midfielder Marco van Ginkel have been the other two signings made by the club, and all three have featured in the pre-season campaign.

The 22-year old started his career at Mainz 05 in Germany in 2006, and has been developing his game ever since. In 2009, the club were convinced of his abilities, and offered him a professional contract to ensure he stays. In the span of two years, he played 66 matches for the side, scoring 20 goals, a feat which impressed Bayer Leverkusen, who received his services for 65 matches since 2011.

Schurrle said, “I am Andre Schurrle. And I don’t compare myself to others. I have my own qualities and enough confidence to say I feel strong enough to come out on top here. It is a great challenge but I am delighted that I took this chance.”
