Schurrle Gives Chelsea Champions League Hope

According to the Telegraph, Andre Schurrle is confident of Chelsea’s ability of getting back into the UEFA Champions League semi-final draw by putting in an impressive performance at Stamford Bridge against Paris Saint Germain.

PSG came out 3-1 winners at the Parc de Princes in the first leg of a crucial quarter final tie against the Blues in midweek. Jose Mourinho’s men looked in trouble after Ezequiel Lavezzi scored PSG’s first goal inside 5 minutes, but Chelsea bounced back stronger, dominated periods of possession in the opposition half. Eden Hazard once again proved his importance to the side with an impressive equaliser, but his team conceded an unfortunate own goal through David Luiz. Javier Pastore’s late strike in the second half was a big blow in Chelsea’s quest for success, and could be the defining moment when both teams meet next week for the second leg.

Schurrle has always operated as a natural winger, but has been impressive in adjusting to Chelsea’s striker needs. The German could start again for Chelsea as part of a similar formation in the second leg of the tie, after the unknown status of the injury to Samuel Eto’o.
