Santon Not Interested In Chelsea Move!

The Italian, Davide Santon joined Newcastle United from Italian outfit Inter Milan and despite a mixed start to life at St. James’ Park, he has finally managed to sustain his place in the starting line-up this season. His performances at left-back have been impressive this year which have attracted the interest of several clubs of late who have made inquiries about the 22-year old.

However, the most prominent interest has been from Chelsea, whose manager Jose Mourinho is keen to bring a full-back to the club in January. He knows Santon very well, having managed him previously during the duo’s time at Inter. Mourinho has always liked Santon and now wants to reunite with the young defender.

Apart from Chelsea, Napoli too are understood to be monitoring his situation as they are contemplating bringing him back to Italy. Managed by Rafael Benitez, who has himself worked closely with Santon after replacing Mourinho at Inter, they also want to strengthen their back line and are looking at all possible options, with Santon being one of them.

However, it looks like the duo will have to return empty handed in their chase as a source close to the player has made it crystal clear that he is enjoying his time at Newcastle, and is not looking for a change in scenario just yet. In an interview with Newcastle Chronicle, Metro report the source as saying, “He loves it at Newcastle, and loves life in the Premier League,”

“He is keen to play out the next two years of his contract here at least.”

Chelsea are expected to deeply hunt for a quality full-back either in January or the summer, as they look to bring in some fresh legs in that department. They cannot rely on the 32-year old Ashley Cole for long and want to bring in a like-for-like replacement for the English international.

Where will their search take them next? Will Mourinho press further in his efforts to get Santon, or will he suspend his attempts to lure him and look abroad? Who, according to you, can slot in perfectly in the Chelsea setup?
