Sanchez speaks out again: The latest on his potential move to Chelsea

You know when you get the feeling someone is trying to tell you something? Well it’s likely Arsenal fans will be feeling that way about Alexis Sanchez right now. The Chilean has reiterated his stance about winning titles and insists this is his motivation to go to work everyday.

In an article published yesterday on Arsenal’s website Sanchez is quoted as saying, “Looking at everything I’ve done in my career as a footballer, at all the titles, I believe that what’s hugely important is motivation,”

“If a footballer is well motivated and has various things to motivate him every day, he will keep achieving his goals.

“Everything in life depends on feeling motivated, whether you are talking about a child, a family or an individual.”

Sanchez is a man motivated by titles, playing in a team that struggles to deliver them with regularity. His teammates look off the pace mentally, think about Giroud’s pathetic celebration as he snatched an equaliser at Bournemouth, a game in which minutes later Sanchez was throwing his gloves to the ground in frustration as the sides ended level.

The 28-year-old, who has won the Copa America twice for his national team, as well as La Liga, Copa del Rey and the FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Barcelona, only has a singular FA cup winners medal to his name during his time at Arsenal.

Three years of hard graft and exceptional performances have produced only one trophy, in which Arsenal had an astonishingly easy run playing Reading in the semi-final and Aston Villa in the final.

It’s clear that Sanchez yearns for more, and as he watches rivals Chelsea ease to a second Premier League title in three years recent comments whilst away on international duty certainly suggest he has an eye on a move to the Blues.

‘I am happy in London and I hope to finish my contract at Arsenal,’ Sanchez said recently in Santiago.

‘I want to stay in a winning team and keep playing in the same city. I want to play in a team that has aspirations.”

If Chelsea managed to pull the signing off they could have a front three of Hazard, Costa and Sanchez, which would be as close to unplayable as there is. A trio that would certainly rival Neymar, Suarez and Messi at Barcelona, as well as Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo at Real Madrid. Chelsea will be back mixing it with the big boys of European football again next year, and Antonio Conte is rumoured to have demanded at least one marquee signing to make an impact on the competition.

With 14-months left to run on his current deal there are three options for Sanchez this summer:

He could demand a move to Chelsea and use all his player power to force it through.

He could refuse a new deal and enter the last year of his contract at Arsenal, demanding a trophy or at least a title-run in order to convince him to stay.

Or finally, he could sign a new deal, all these recent comments could just be bargaining chips for better contract offer, however, you really get the sense Sanchez is speaking truthfully. The man wants titles, and Chelsea is the place to go to get them.
