Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s Chelsea future jeopardised by Roman Abramovich insists Sky Sports expert

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s Chelsea future is being jeopardised by  club owner Roman Abramovich, according to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth.

Loftus-Cheek spent last season on-loan with Crystal Palace, where his fine performances for Roy Hodgson’s side saw him earn an unlikely call-up into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup.

And after continuing to impress in Russia it was thought the young Englishman would return to Stamford Bridge to play a key role in Antonio Conte’s side next term.

However with the Italian’s future very much up in the air, Loftus-Cheek’s future too remains unclear.

And Sheth believes the constant changing of managers at Stamford Bridge will hold back the talented 22-year-old from developing as much as he could.

Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast: “It’s very interesting that Chelsea do rate him but every manager that has come in, I think they look at the shelf-life of the manager at Chelsea and think ‘right, do I give these youngsters a chance or do I just get the ready-made article?’

“That’s what’s happened. Maybe it needs a change of tact at Chelsea from the very top to say ‘right, we’ll be patient with you as a manager, we want you to bring these youngsters through’.

“Loftus-Cheek actually has three years left on his contract at Chelsea.

“Reading between the lines, he wants to make base somewhere. He doesn’t want to keep going on loan to different clubs, he wants to move to a club who wants him, who will commit to him and say ‘here’s a five-year contract, you’re going to be in the team’.”

Should Loftus-Cheek again bot be given an opportunity in the first team with Chelsea next term, he is unlikely to be short of suitors.

Everton and Liverpool are understood to be interested in the Chelsea man, however Crystal Palace are favourites for his signature, and Sheth believes a return to Selhurst Park would be perfect for Loftus-Cheek.

He added: “Crystal Palace is one club who will definitely want him.

“Roy Hodgson said last season he hoped Palace would be front of the queue if Chelsea offloaded him in the summer.

“A potential new manager at Chelsea may mean a new opportunity at Stamford Bridge.

“He’s a vital member of England’s World Cup squad and with that in mind I wonder if Ruben Loftus-Cheek is thinking maybe a bit higher, with all due respect to Crystal Palace, than Selhurst Park.”
