Rooney would be perfect at Chelsea

A move that would send Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge makes almost too much sense for Chelsea.

It is clear that transfer talks with Rooney have been going on for quite a while. New manager David Moyes has stated that he isn’t completely sold on the 27-year-old English star. He claims that Rooney still needs to prove his value.

“Wayne can play up on his own, he can play dropped in. Overall my thought on Wayne is, if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie, we’ll need him,” said Moyes, speaking in Bangkok before United flew to Sydney for the next leg of their tour.

Clearly there is tension between the new manager and one of his biggest stars, which is why a move needs to happen if United want to avoid a tension-filled first season in the Moyes era; even if that means moving Rooney to their Premier League rivals.

Jose Mourinho has clearly brought a culture change with him to Stamford Bridge and is very keen on Rooney as he explained to the media after Chelsea’s arrival in Bangkok on Friday.

“We’ve heard all the names – it’s not up to us who comes in but it’s exciting,” Mourinho said. “Rooney would be a brilliant signing. He’s a really great player who has the experience, and he’s still only young, at 27. He’s got a few years left to play. It’s always a pleasure to play with great players, and Chelsea sign great players.”

Even as Chelsea continue to sing the praises of Rooney, Manchester United appear to be hanging on to the English football icon for now. But with the transfer period still in full swing, anything is possible.
