Romano Reveals “The Key Factor” That Could Be Crucial In Chelsea’s Attempts To Sign Ex Arsenal Star

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s strong relationship with Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could prove to be a “key factor” in securing the former Arsenal player’s services, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims that the 33-year-old is “happy” at the Camp Nou, but Tuchel is believed to be confident that he can persuade him into returning to England:

“Aubameyang is happy at Barca and he may have a chance to stay, Chelsea are interested since one week and will soon decide whether to make a proposal. I believe that the relationship with Thomas Tuchel from their time at Borussia Dortmund is a key factor, so if Auba were to go to Chelsea it would be a very intriguing deal.”

Whether the Blues should be pursuing Aubameyang is open to debate. A replacement for Romelu Lukaku is undoubtedly required, but signing an ex-Gunner, who appears to be past his best, doesn’t seem like the wisest move.

While he is clearly a player that Tuchel trusts, it would really only be a short-term solution. There is an argument for bringing in such an option, especially if the club’s primary targets for the position are not available but, as we explained in an article yesterday, he may not even be the best Barcelona forward who is currently up for sale.
