Ben Chilwell remains “100% focused” on Chelsea, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Reports at the weekend suggested that the left-back could leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, with Manchester City keeping an eye on his situation, but Romano claims a transfer is not being considered at the moment:
“Man City interest in Ben Chilwell was there already last year, but I’m told Chelsea have not made any decision on fullbacks at this stage and also Chilwell is doing very well, so he’s 100% focused on Chelsea right now.”
Chilwell has been in outstanding form in recent weeks, with his superb first-time shot opening the scoring against Leicester City in the 3-1 win on Saturday.
The fullback is, though, closing in on the final two years of his contract with the Blues, so negotiations over an extension should begin in the not too distant future.
There may be some hesitation about handing Chilwell a lengthy new deal, as well as a pay rise, considering his injury record since arriving at the club, but his current form suggests tying down the player for the long term would be the right decision.
