Romano Reveals Chelsea Defender’s Serie A Switch Is Now ‘Agreed’

Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta will join Genoa on a season-long loan deal, according to the Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable Italian reporter says the 28-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Serie A side and will have a medical today ahead of the move being completed:

Zappacosta spent last season out on loan at Roma but suffered a serious knee injury which kept him out for most of the campaign. He only returned to action after the restart back in June.

With manager Frank Lampard already having the likes of Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta available to him, Zappacosta would only have been a fringe player if he had stayed at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues would, though, have been hoping to offload the fullback on a permanent basis but it seems no buyers could be found in Italy. The Italian was signed for £23m from Torino three years ago.
