Romano Delivers Verdict On Whether 47.5M Chelsea Ace Could Make Surprise Move To Arsenal

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling is unlikely to make the switch to Arsenal at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

There has been speculation in recent days that the Gunners could swoop in to sign the England international, just a year after he joined the Blues from Manchester City for £47.5m. However, Romano claims there are a number of reasons why he doesn’t believe the rumours:

“I’m not convinced by the Raheem Sterling rumours I’ve seen doing the rounds. I think we will have ten links per day for Chelsea players as they have many players! But it’s March and nothing is concrete at this stage, all sources don’t confirm concrete interest as of now.”

“It’s also worth remembering that Arsenal signed Leandro Trossard in January and will also extend Bukayo Saka’s contract, I’m also sure Sterling wants to fight for his Chelsea place. This is something for the summer, not for now.”

It would be a shock if Sterling was considering his future so soon after arriving at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is known to be a fan of the player, and the feeling is said to be mutual after they worked together at City.

However, as Romano says, the Premier League leaders are pretty well stocked in wide areas. From Chelsea’s point of view, the club do need to balance the books but there are plenty of other players who would be ahead of Sterling in the queue for the exit door.

A fair few wingers could be set to leave the club, with Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and, potentially, Hakim Ziyech all unlikely to remain beyond the summer, so Sterling should get some game time if he stays.
