Romano Confirms ‘New Attempt’ To Sign Croatian Star Has Been Made With Swap Deal Discussed

Chelsea have made a “new attempt” to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian reporter claims a swap deal was proposed, with Timo Werner moving in the other direction on loan, but Leipzig have told the Blues that Gvardiol is not for sale:

It is not a surprising development that Thomas Tuchel’s side have decided to pursue a deal for Gvardiol. PSG’s Presnel Kimpembe was the number one target to strengthen the left-sided centre-back position but it has become clear in recent days that he isn’t looking to leave Paris.

With that being the case, Chelsea were always likely to move on to a backup option, and Gvardiol is known to be high up the list of candidates.

The Croatian international is very highly rated, having also been tracked by the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal, but Leipzig seem determined to keep hold of the young defender.
