Romano Claims Chelsea Have A “Strong Interest” In Securing Deal For 29 Year Old

Chelsea will consider extending Jorginho’s contract beyond 2023, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 29-year-old is keen on staying at Stamford Bridge and, while there is a will to make it happen on both sides, Romano claims that the Blues do have other priorities at the moment:

“The agent of Jorginho was speaking in Italy this week that Marina Granovskaia already let us know that she wants to extend the contract of Jorginho. It is true that Chelsea have a strong interest in extending Jorginho’s contract, but at the moment, it is not the priority.”

There are currently four first-team players that have contracts expiring next summer. The futures of captain Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva are all up in the air, so it is understandable why Chelsea are prioritising negotiations with them, ahead of Jorginho.

The Blues shouldn’t wait too long to open talks with the midfielder. He has expressed a desire to return to Italy on multiple occasions in the past and he may well be tempted to secure a move away from London if he doesn’t feel wanted.

Things shouldn’t get to that point, though, but as we have seen with Rudiger, anything can happen.
