Roma Set To Raid Chelsea For Defender Who Is Deemed Surplus To Requirements By Lampard

Roma are interested in signing Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta, according to reports in the Italian media. The Giallorossi are said to be optimistic of getting a deal over the line with the Blues prepared to let the 27-year-old leave.

The emergence of Reece James means Chelsea would be willing to offload the Italian if the right deal comes along, although it is unlikely that they’ll recoup all of the £22.5m they paid Torino for the player two years ago.

Roma are looking to strengthen their options at fullback, but they already have captain Alessandro Florenzi who plays regularly at right-back so the Serie A side are unlikely to break the bank for Zappacosta.

The Italian has made 52 appearances for the Blues but the majority have been in cup competitions or as a substitute. He has been unable to displace Cesar Azpilicueta in the side and James’ rise to prominence means he is even further down the pecking order.
