Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is the driving force behind the London club’s interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to Marca.
The Madrid-based publication name the Blues as one of three possible destinations for the Spanish international, alongside Manchester United and Liverpool.
Whilst United are thought to be weighing up a €50m (£43m) offer for Niguez, Liverpool have made an enquiry without firming up their interest in the midfielder.
The 26-year-old is available for transfer this summer, with Atletico said to be looking to use the funds from the player’s sale in order to finance a bid for a new striker.
There is no indication as to what Niguez’s price tag will be though or whether Chelsea are close to making a formal offer for the Spaniard.
The Blues do have other priorities. Signing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is believed to be their main goal so a deal for Niguez is likely to be dependent on whether there is enough left over in the transfer budget.
